AL to visit Gaibandha Santals tomorrow
A delegation of the ruling Awami League will visit the Santal community in Gaibandha’s Gobindaganj tomorrow where three indigenous people were killed in a clash over land dispute.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is sending the team to get firsthand report of the incident, Mahbubul Alam Hanif, joint general secretary of Awami League, told The Daily Star this evening.
Earlier today, Hanif made an announcement in this regard at Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office. The five-man team will attempt to find out the real culprits behind the incident.
“The culprit will be apprehended, regardless of party affiliation,” Hanif said.
The five members are: BM Mozammel Haque, AL’s Rangpur division organising secretary, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury of Rajshahi, Tipu Munsi, the party’s finance and planning secretary, Sujit Roy Nondi, relief and social welfare secretary, and Remond Areng, executive member of the party.
