AL ‘mistakes’ rejecting Khaleda’s proposal: Moudud
BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed today said the ruling Awami League has made a “political mistake” by rejecting BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s proposal to constitute an independent election commission.
“Awami League should accept Khaleda Zia’s proposal and hold talks with her. The party has committed a political mistake rejecting the proposal,” Moudud, also a former law minister, made the observation at a programme in Dhaka this evening.
He said the ruling Awami League does not want a free, fair and inclusive election and thus it has rejected the BNP’s proposal.
“Awami League knows it will face an absolute debacle in the next general election if it is held under a strong and impartial election commission,” he observed.
Blaming the government for creating a “democratic vacuum” in the country, Moudud said the hard earned democracy will not be restored without formation of an independent election commission before the next general election.
“And we are carrying out our movement to achieve the goal,” he added.
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student front of BNP, organised the programme at Institute of Engineers’ Bangladesh marking the 51st birth anniversary of the party’s senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman.
