AL has to step down during national polls: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said that the ruling Awami League will have to step down from power during the next parliamentary elections.
“BNP is ready to participate in the national polls but Awami League will have to stay aside from power during the election,” Fakhrul told reporters after a programme at Lalmonirhat today.
The BNP leader also said the election will have to be held under the supervision of a competent election commission.
About his party’s participation in the upcoming district parishad and Narayanganj City Corporation elections, he said the party will take decision in this regard after discussion in the party forum.
He attended the function of final football match and prize giving ceremony at Sheed Abul Kashem playground in the district this afternoon.
About the recent attack on Hindu and Santal people, he said none but the ruling Awami League men are “responsible” for the attacks.
“Awami League just speaks for secularism and communal harmony but it does not believe in the spirits,” he said.
