AL, BNP submit annual financial reports to EC
The two major political parties, Bangladesh Awami League and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), submitted their annual financial statements to the Election Commission today.
Ruling Awami League (AL) spent around Taka 3.73 crore while it earned around Tk 7.12 crore last year.
BNP spent around Tk 1.87 crore, while it earned around Tk 1.73 crore last year. It means BNP spent around TK 14.26 lakh more than its income.
After submitting the statements, the party leaders revealed the income and expenditure information to reporters at the EC Secretariat.
A three-member AL delegation led by party’s Office Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap and a seven-member BNP delegation led by party’s Joint Secretary General Moazzem Hossain Alal submitted the statements to the EC’s Secretary Sirazul Islam at around 12:15pm and 12:30pm respectively.
All the registered political parties have to submit their annual financial reports certified by chartered accountancy firms within July 31 of the following year, according to Political Parties Registration Rule, 2008.
But some parties including--AL and BNP-- failed to meet the deadline this year and sought for extending the time frame. Following that, the EC granted their appeals.
