Paradoxes of our political system
The separation of power among the executive, legislative and judiciary is the cornerstone of democracy. No one is above the law. Unfortunately, this may not be true for Bangladesh, because, the Anti-Corruption Commission has the power to bring charges against any persons except the lawmakers, and may be, selected others. So it can be concluded that in Bangladesh, lawmakers are above law.
The ruling party, though it has two-thirds majority, can't unilaterally change the key elements of the constitution. For such an amendment to take place, it is necessary to have a national dialogue. Also, major political parties need to approve it.
Similarly, the example of the UK and other EU countries, in regard to the PM's continuing in office during national election is not applicable in Bangladesh's case. That is because the political environment in Bangladesh can't be compared with those of EU countries. That's why several countries and agencies send their representatives to monitor elections in Bangladesh while they don't send anyone to any European countries.
