Number of Covid-19 infected cops rising, 90 test positive in last 24hrs

The number of Covid-19 infected police personnel continues to grow daily with at least 90 officials testing positive in the last 24-hours across the country, according to a tally of Bangladesh Police Headquarters.

The total number of infected cases reached 1,285 this noon, a number that was 1,190 till yesterday afternoon, our staff correspondent reports quoting the database.

Of the total infected cops, 666 are from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

A large number of infected personnel are also from Narayanganj, Gazipur and Dhaka district, sources in the police headquarters said.

So far, 93 police personnel have recovered while six others have died from the infection.

At the moment, 1,089 more police personnel are in isolation after they developed Covid-19 like symptoms while 2689 others, who were in close contact with the infected, have been put in quarantine.

According to police officials, the number of cops in quarantine has nearly doubled in the last 24hrs.

Sohel Rana, assistant inspector general of police headquarters said they have taken all necessary steps to ensure treatment of infected officials.

"We have also taken measures including arranging and providing safety equipment, supplying disinfectant spray at all accommodations, offices, barracks and vehicles for the officials working in the field since the beginning of coronavirus epidemic to ensure their safety," he added.
