Bangladesh has welcomed the temporary ceasefire reached in the Middle East conflict.

In a statement today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “Bangladesh hopes that all parties involved will respect the ceasefire and utilise this opportunity constructively to work towards a durable and sustainable resolution and restore lasting peace and stability across the region.”

The ministry expressed appreciation for the diplomatic efforts that facilitated the ceasefire and reiterated Bangladesh’s position that disputes should be resolved peacefully through dialogue and diplomacy.

The ceasefire deal was reached between the US and Iran, less than two hours before a deadline set by US President Donald Trump.

Trump hailed the agreement as “a big day for World Peace!”

Under the deal, the US and Israel agreed to suspend bombing Iran for two weeks, under the condition of Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz for safe passage. The strategic waterway handles about 20% of global oil supplies, making its security critical to international trade.
