Transport strike in south-western zone threatened

JESSORE, Jan 4: Transport workers in south-western zone will go on a 48-hour token strike from 6 am on January 12 if the authorities concerned fail to accept their 6-point demand by January 11. The decision was taken at a meeting of the south-western zonal committee of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation (Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation), held here recently. The demands include release of driver, supervisor and helper arrested on charge of dacoity in a night coach on Dhaka-Dhamrai road in November last year, deployment of security force in night coach, cancellation of registration of transport workers unions in Narail, Kushtia and Mohespur, stoppage of toll collection at Kamarkhali of Faridpur and at Daulatdia ghat and solution to traffic jam at Aricha.
