Boston Dynamics names Amazon's Rohit Prasad as chief executive
US-based robotics company Boston Dynamics has appointed Rohit Prasad as chief executive, effective October 7. Prasad joins the humanoid robot maker, which is owned by Hyundai Motor Group, from Amazon, where he served as senior vice president and head scientist for Alexa and artificial general intelligence.
The company said Prasad brings experience in turning physical AI breakthroughs into commercial success. He succeeds Robert Playter, who stepped down in February.
The appointment comes as Hyundai Motor Group pushes ahead with plans to scale up robot production. The group said in January that it aims to build a factory capable of manufacturing 30,000 robot units annually by 2028, the same year it plans to begin deploying them across all of its manufacturing sites.
