34% voter turnout in Dhaka Bar Association election
Around 34 percent of voters cast their ballots in the election for the executive committee of the Dhaka Bar Association for the 2026–2027 term.
A total of 7,069 out of 20,785 registered voters participated in the two-day election, said Sayed Nazrul Islam, general secretary of the Dhaka Bar Association.
Dhaka Bar Association Chief Election Commissioner Al-hajj Md Borhan Uddin told The Daily Star that voting began at 9:00am on Wednesday and Thursday, continuing until 5:00pm each day with a one-hour break from 1:00pm to 2:00pm.
He added that 54 candidates contested for 23 posts.
According to Bar Association sources, pro-BNP lawyers from the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Panel contested under the Blue Panel, while pro-Jamaat-e-Islami candidates and their alliance ran under the Green Panel.
Among the candidates, Anwar Zahid Bhuiyan contested for President and Mohammad Abul Kalam Khan for General Secretary from the Blue Panel.
From the Green Panel, SM Kamal Uddin contested for President and Abu Bakker Siddique for General Secretary.
