Tarique Rahman to deliver election address on BTV Feb 9

BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman will deliver an address on Bangladesh Television (BTV) on February 9 ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election and referendum. The Election Commission (EC) has instructed BTV to make the necessary arrangements.

The information was disclosed in a letter sent today by EC Public Relations Director Md Ruhul Amin Mallik.

According to the letter, creating an environment conducive to a free, fair and credible election is of paramount importance, and ensuring equal opportunities for all candidates to campaign on Bangladesh Television can play a significant role in that process.

In line with Rule 6 (Public Meetings, Processions and Assemblies), sub-rule (g) of the National Parliamentary Election Code of Conduct 2025, the Commission said broadcast opportunities must be allocated based on the order in which written applications are received. BTV will determine the duration of the speeches and finalise the recording schedule in consultation with the respective political parties.

The letter said that, as no applications have been received from any political party other than the BNP, the Commission has directed BTV to make the necessary arrangements to allow the BNP’s party chief to deliver his speech on the requested date of February 9.

However, the letter did not mention the time at which Tarique will address the nation.
