Nagorik Oikya President Manna regains Bogura-2 candidacy

Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna has regained his candidacy for the Bogura-2 constituency through an appeal to the Election Commission (EC).

The EC accepted his appeal this afternoon and declared his nomination paper valid, Manna’s lawyer Syed Mamun Mahbub told journalists after the hearing.

Earlier, the returning officer concerned had cancelled Manna’s nomination paper for the Bogura-2 seat during scrutiny.

Manna later appealed to the EC against the decision.

Speaking to journalists at the EC today, Manna said he had previously contested elections from Bogura as well.

He said the “mobocracy” carried out to oppose him carried an ominous signal. He added that the deputy commissioner, being unsettled, thought it better to send the matter to the EC to handle the situation. Otherwise, there was no reason to cancel the nomination, he said.

He also said the EC had demonstrated its competence.
