The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has detained another alleged shooter in connection with the murder of Swechchhasebak Dal leader Aziziur Rahman Musabbir.

The detainee was identified as Rahim.

A DB team arrested him during a drive in Narsingdi early yesterday and recovered two firearms, said a DB official.

Contacted, DB Additional Commissioner Shafiqul Islam told The Daily Star that the operation is still ongoing.

“The operation team has not yet returned. However, I have heard that two firearms have been recovered. We will inform you later through a press release,” he said yesterday.

Musabbir, former general secretary of the Swechchhasebak Dal’s Dhaka North city unit, was shot dead on January 7 in an alley near Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue. His wife filed a murder case with Tejgaon Police Station the following day, accusing four to five unidentified assailants.

Earlier, on January 11, the DB detained four individuals in connection with the killing.  During a press briefing that day, Shafiqul Islam said Zinnat was one of the shooters, while Bilal was the main planner of the murder. Detained Rahim is the brother of Bilal.
