Muktis remain on top

Title aspirants Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra retained their two-point lead over holders Mohammedan Sporting Club and Abahani Krira Chakra in the Premier Division football league when they beat promotees Rahmatganj Muslim Friend's Society by two goals to nil in their return leg clash at the Mirpur Stadium yesterday. With midfielders Rakib and Iqbal absent due to suspension the Mahanagari Cup champions made a positive start against the old town outfit. Midfielder Satyajit Das Rupu shot the Reds ahead in the 14th minute capitalising on a goalmouth rebounder while defender Jewel Rana sealed the match converting a spot kick in the 71st minute. Muktis, with their eleventh win in 15 matches against a defeat and three draws, remained atop the table having raised their tally to 36 points. On the other hand, it was Rahmatganj's seventh defeat in 15 outings against one victory and seven draws which kept them glued to their previous collection of 10 points. After a barren first half, Sohag put the winners ahead in the 51st minute while Atish doubled the margin in the 77th minute. With yesterday's win, Chalantika raised their tally to 30 points from 16 matches and moved atop the ten-team league with a two-point lead over Badda Jagarani Sangsad who have 28 points from 15 matches. East End Club remained stuck to their previous collection of 26 points on completion of their 16th match.
