Italian Deputy FM in city
Italian Deputy Foreign Minister Senator Patrizia Toia arrived in the city yesterday on a three-day official visit, reports UNB.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Abul Hasan Chowdhury received her at Zia International Airport.
This is the first high-level visit from Italy to Bangladesh in nine years. The visit is significant at a time when Bangladesh and Italy have completed 25 years of diplomatic relations.
Toia will hold formal talks with Abul Hasan Chowdhury today, covering the entire gamut of bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of common concern.
She will call on Speaker Humayun Rasheed Chowdhury, Commerce and Industries Minister Tofael Ahmed and Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria during her stay here.
The two countries have excellent bilateral relations characterised by close political and commercial ties. Italy is one of the most important export destination for Bangladesh in Europe.
During the visit, a cultural programme will be signed between Bangladesh and Italy under the frame of cultural agreement signed earlier.
The visit is likely to give further impetus to the growing relations between the two countries, particularly in trade, investment and cultural affairs.
