Homna to be added to Cumilla-2 constituency as SC stays HC verdict on EC gazette

The Supreme Court today stayed a High Court verdict that, on Thursday, declared illegal the Election Commission’s gazette notification adding Homna upazila to the Cumilla-2 constituency.

Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court Justice Md Rezaul passed the order following a petition filed by the EC challenging the High Court judgement.

Following the apex court chamber judge’s order, Homna upazila will be added to the Cumilla-2 constituency in accordance with the EC's gazette notification issued on September 4 last year.

Previously, the Cumilla-2 constituency comprised Meghna and Titas upazilas while Homna under Cumilla-1.

Later, Homna was added to the constituency, while Meghna was shifted to the Cumilla-1 constituency through the gazette notification.

As a result, Cumilla-2 was formed with Homna and Titas upazilas.
