Hasina to visit Indonesia, Philippines in September

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to visit Indonesia and the Philippines in the first week of September in a bid to bolster the country's ties with the South Asian nations, reports UNB. Hasina, now staying in the United States with her daughter, is due to return home on August 6. Her planned visit to the two important South Asian nations will take place at a time when Bangladesh's relations with the countries of this region have improved remarkably. "Bangladesh has now excellent relations with all South Asian nations", said a senior official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday. The country's trade and economic cooperation with all ASEAN nations have been multiplied in last one year due to effective economic diplomacy, pursued by the government, he said. Filipino President V Ramos visited Bangladesh last March. President Soeharto of Indonesia came to Dhaka in 1979.
