Fire at Matarbari Power Plant scrap yard

A fire broke out at the scrap yard of the Matarbari coal-based power plant in Maheshkhali upazila on Monday night.

The blaze started around 9:00pm and, as of 10:45pm, had not been brought under control, according to Prothom Alo.

Two units of the Maheshkhali fire service, comprising 10 personnel, were working to douse the flames.

Salah Uddin, team leader of the Matarbari fire service unit, said two additional units from Chakaria fire service were on their way to assist.

The 1,200-megawatt Matarbari power plant is located about half a kilometre away from the scrap yard.
