The special bulletin that Bangladesh Met Office issued on Monday morning had warned that Cyclone Sitrang would make landfall anytime between Monday midnight and Tuesday morning.

The damage caused by Cyclone Sitrang was not as severe as was feared because the storm weakened as it neared the coast and made landfall during low tide, experts said.

At least nine people died in six districts with eight of them crushed under tree branches and another under collapsed wall amid stormy weather as Cyclone Sitrang hit Bangladesh coast last night.

Cyclone Sitrang, which hit the coastal districts early today, is likely to cause  damage to the standing Aman paddy.

The Indian Met Department today (October 20, 2022) said the potential cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal is likely to recurve and reach Bangladesh-West Bengal coasts by October 25.
