Sylhet petrol pumps resume operations
Owners of CNG, LPG and petrol pumps across Sylhet division have formally called off their indefinite strike this afternoon, allowing stations to resume operations.
Humayun Ahmed, secretary of the Sylhet divisional committee of the Bangladesh Petroleum Dealers, Distributors, Agents and Petrol Pump Owners Association, confirmed that pump owners withdrew the strike after a meeting with the divisional administration.
He added that all stations have now reopened.
Earlier, pump owners had shut down operations last night, leaving transport workers and motorcyclists without access to fuel and gas.
They had called the strike citing “unreasonable fines” and administrative "harassment".
Association president Zubayer Ahmed Chowdhury said authorities had stationed “tag officers” at pumps, carried out frequent audits through multiple agencies, deployed police, and imposed heavy fines on six stations.
He added that under such conditions, operating CNG and LPG stations in Sylhet had become unfeasible.
