Duolingo, the mobile language learning platform, has recently announced that its chief financial officer (CFO), Matt Skaruppa, will step down after nearly six years in the role, marking the departure of a senior executive who oversaw the company’s transition to a publicly listed business.

According to a blog post by Duolingo, Mark Skaruppa, who joined the language-learning platform in early 2020, will remain in his post until February 23, 2026 before moving into an advisory role to support the leadership transition. During his tenure, Duolingo reported steady revenue growth and improving profitability, as it converted high user engagement into paid subscriptions and expanded its use of artificial intelligence (AI) to personalise lessons.

Gillian Munson will succeed Mark Skaruppa as chief financial officer. Munson has been a member of Duolingo’s board since 2019 and has previously held senior finance positions at Vimeo and other technology companies.

Duolingo also released preliminary results for the fourth quarter which shows that daily active users rose by about 30 percent. According to the company, fourth-quarter bookings were reported in the range of $329.5 million to $335.5 million.
