Police are yet to identify the assailants 24 hours after a foreign currency trader was shot and robbed of around $17,000 in broad daylight in Motijheel.

The victim, Mohammad Lokman, 45, was attacked in front of Janata Bank on Sunday afternoon. He is currently receiving treatment at Mugda Medical College and Hospital.

Harun ur Rashid, deputy commissioner of the DMP’s Motijheel division, said officers visited the spot immediately after the incident and collected CCTV footage. “We are launching a combined investigation with DB and CTTC,” he said, adding that progress has been made but was not yet ready to be shared.

No case has been filed so far.

DC Harun said police contacted the family, but they prefer to wait until Lokman recovers.

Rakib, the victim’s son-in-law and assistant, told The Daily Star that Lokman is out of danger but doctors have instructed him not to speak. “When the doctors allow him to talk, we will file the case based on his account of the incident,” he said.

Recalling the events, Rakib said Lokman had gone to the Adamjee Court Building before heading towards Bangladesh Bank, where his younger brother was waiting.

Rakib mentioned that Lokman had long been involved in forex trading, with his brother also engaged in the same business.
