Police arrest 108 in separate drives across Dhaka

Aim to curb crime and maintain law and order in capital

Police arrested 108 people in separate drives in Tejgaon, Hazaribagh, and Jatrabari areas of Dhaka yesterday on various offenses, officials said.

The information was shared in separate press releases signed by NM Nasiruddin, deputy commissioner (Media and Public Relations Division) of the DMP.

In Tejgaon, 67 people were arrested during routine drives, according to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Of them, seven were arrested in connection with regular cases, 10 in previous cases, and four on arrest warrants, while 46 under the DMP Ordinance, police said.

In Hazaribagh, police arrested 26 people in a daylong special drive in crime-prone areas. During the operation, officers recovered seven yaba tablets and 18 packets of cannabis from those arrested. They were later sent to the court, according to the press release.

In a separate drive in Jatrabari, police arrested 15 people and seized 4,000 yaba tablets, 1.5kg of cannabis, 1,500kg of banned polythene, and a pickup van used to transport the contraband. The arrestees were also produced before a court.

Police said such drives would continue to curb crime and maintain law and order in the capital.
