Moulvibazar woman gang-raped at home; 2 accused confess: Police

Two men accused of gang-raping a woman in Moulvibazar town have been arrested, with both subsequently giving confessional statements before a magistrate, police said this afternoon.

The arrestees -- Ferdous Hossain, 31, and Kannal Mia alias Joynal, 39 -- were arrested during separate operations conducted by Moulvibazar Sadar Model Police Station. Two mobile phones allegedly stolen during the incident were also recovered.

Md Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge of Moulvibazar Sadar Model Police Station, said three masked men broke into the victim's home in the early hours of June 3. The woman was sleeping alongside her infant daughter. The assailants allegedly raped her under threat.

Following the incident, the victim filed a case against unidentified suspects at Moulvibazar Sadar Model Police Station. Investigators subsequently launched an inquiry, drawing on digital intelligence to trace the accused.

Ferdous was apprehended from Rajabari area of Dhaka’s Savar, while Joynal was arrested from Uttar Kalimabad area of Moulvibazar town.

Produced before a court, both accused confessed to their involvement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure yesterday, said the OC.

A third suspect remains at large and operations are ongoing to arrest him, added the OC.
