A 35-year-old man has been accused of raping a 43-year-old widow after luring her to a residential hotel in Faridpur with promises of a family card and widow allowance.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station Md Shahidul Islam confirmed the matter and said the rape survivor filed a case with the police facility against Sujon Sheikh, 35, of the West Alipur area in the town, on Tuesday (April 7).

According to police sources, the incident took place on April 2. The woman later received treatment at the One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) of Faridpur Medical College Hospital for four days before returning home.

According to the case statement, the victim is a resident of the Faridpur municipal area and has been living with her only son since her husband’s death. Recently, her neighbour Sujon Sheikh allegedly assured her that he would arrange a family card and widow allowance for her.

On the morning of April 2, at around 9:00am, Sujon took her on a rickshaw, saying they needed to go to Faridpur Sadar upazila for the process. Instead, he took her to a residential hotel in the bus terminal area, telling her it was an office, and raped her there, according to case details.

She later fell ill and was admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. After four days of treatment, she returned home on April 6 and filed a rape case with Kotwali Police Station on Tuesday (April 7).

OC Md Shahidul Islam said police found initial evidence supporting the allegation. “The victim has filed a case, and police are continuing efforts to arrest the accused,” he added.
