PM is right, there can be no comparison between AL, BNP: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said he agreed in part with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's recent statement that there could be no comparison between the ruling Awami League and BNP.
"Since she has raised the issue of comparison, then surely many people are comparing Awami league with BNP," Fakhrul told The Daily Star.
"BNP is a people's party, while Awami League is an isolated party. BNP is the party that came to power after getting the votes of the people, while Awami League is a party without voters and comes to power through nighttime voting. So, there is really no comparison between BNP and Awami League. In that sense, the prime minister is right."
On February 25, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also AL president, said there was no comparison between BNP and Awami League.
"The BNP doesn't want people's welfare. They burnt people alive and played ducks and drakes with their fate. But, the AL is a party of this soil and its people and it works for countrymen. So, no comparison can be drawn between the Awami League and the BNP," she said.
