BNP spends more than it earns
BNP's expenditure was more than its income last year, the party's annual financial report shows.
The expenditure was over Tk 1.14 crore higher than its income, said the report submitted to the Election Commission yesterday.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, BNP senior joint general secretary, handed over the report to EC Secretary Md Humayun Kabir Khandaker.
According to the report, the party earned Tk 84,12,444 in 2021 from different sources, including monthly fees from members, Fixed Deposit Receipt (FDR), nomination form sales and donations, while it spent Tk 1,98,47,171 for different purposes, including paying salaries and bonuses to employees, maintaining office and publication of supplements.
The expenditure was Tk 1,14,34,727 higher than the party's earnings in 2021 and the deficit was met from the previous year's funds, the BNP said.
As per the related law, all registered political parties are obliged to submit their financial statements of the previous calendar year to the EC by July 31.
The commission can cancel the registration of a party if it fails to submit the report for three consecutive years.
