Leaders of Udichi Shilpi Gosthi, a social and cultural organisation, today accused the interim government of failing to prevent attack and arson at its central office despite clear threats from anti-liberation and fundamentalist forces nearly 24 hours earlier.
Udichi General Secretary Amit Ranjan Dey alleged, "The government has moved away from the spirit of the July uprising and is effectively appeasing fundamentalist forces."
The allegations were made at a protest rally held this morning following a demonstration condemning the attack on Udichi's central office.
Udichi artistes and activists brought out a protest procession around 11:00am from Paltan intersection, which ended at Satyen Sen Square on Topkhana Road, in front of the organisation's central office and opposite the Jatiya Press Club.
The protest rally was presided over by Udichi Central Committee Vice President Shibani Bhattacharyya.
Addressing the gathering, Udichi General Secretary Amit Ranjan Dey and assistant general secretary Pradip Ghosh demanded immediate action against those responsible.
CPB Dhaka North President Hasan Hafizur Rahman Sohel also spoke at the rally, calling for accountability and ensuring the safety of progressive cultural organisations in the country.
