Two sent to jail, another detained on rape charges

Two persons were sent to jail yesterday, and another was detained on Monday night over rape charges in three districts, according to reports from our correspondents.

In Netrokona, Munna, 25, from Mohanganj upazila, was sent to jail for allegedly raping a fourth-grader on the night of June 12.

The same night, the girl’s father filed a case against him, said Mohanganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Hafizul Islam Harun.

Munna was arrested in the town’s bus stand area.

In Mymensingh, Mohammad Ibrahim, 45, an imam at a mosque in Trishal upazila, was sent to jail yesterday on charges of raping an 8-year-old girl. Quoting a case filed by the victim’s father the same night, Trishal Police Station OC Monsur Ahammad said the girl is a second-grader at a madrasa.

In Rangpur, police detained a youth named Muzahid Islam, 19, on Monday night in a case filed over killing a girl after rape, said Taraganj Police Station OC Ruhul Amin.

Earlier on Saturday, police recovered the body of seven-year-old girl Sanjida Akhter from a jute field in Bhimpur Koranipara village, a day after she went missing.
