Rangamati Hill District Council reconstituted; Dipan Talukdar appointed chairman

The government has reconstituted the interim council of the Rangamati Hill District Council, appointing Dipan Talukdar as chairman of the 15-member body.

The order was issued this afternoon via a notification signed by Mongol Chandra Pal, deputy secretary of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs.

The notification said that in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 16A (4) of the Rangamati Hill District Council Act, 1989 and the Rangamati Hill District Council (Amendment) Act, 1997, as well as Section 4(2) of the Rangamati Hill District Council (Amendment) Act, 2014, the government has reconstituted the interim council of the Rangamati Hill District Council.

The other members of the council are Shashwata Chakma, Biltu Chakma, Subimal Chakma, Anil Baran Chakma, Uthoaimong Marma, Paiching Mong Marma, Prema Talukdar, Timothy Khiang, Suparna Deb Barman, Mohammad Mamunur Rashid, Md Tofazzal Hossain, Mohammad Faruk, Nandita Das, and Chandra Chakma.

The notification said that until further orders, the reconstituted interim council will discharge all responsibilities of the Rangamati Hill District Council in accordance with the provisions of the Rangamati Hill District Council Act, 1989, and all its amendments.

The previous council, formed on November 7, 2024, has been dissolved.
