National Democratic Front president’s house attacked, set on fire in Hathazari
The ancestral home of Anisul Islam Mahmud, president of National Democratic Front (NDF) and chairman of a faction of the Jatiya Party, was vandalised and set on fire by a group of miscreants in Hathazari upazila of Chattogram early today.
No casualties were reported as none were inside the house located in Gumanmardan area during the attack around 12:15am, police said.
Kazi Tarek Aziz, additional superintendent of police (ASP) of Hathazari Circle, told The Daily Star, "A family programme was scheduled to be held, and a few cooks and domestic helps were preparing on the yard of the residence. At that time, around 40 unidentified youths on private cars, microbuses, and motorcycles entered and started vandalising the house. They set the house on fire and left after about 15 minutes."
Locals, with assistance from the fire service, extinguished the blaze.
"On receiving information, police visited the spot and spoke to witnesses. Our teams are working to identify the attackers and trace their whereabouts. We have advised the family members to lodge a complaint," the AddSP added.
