Lightning strikes kill 2 in Natore, Kurigram

Two people were killed after being struck by lightning in Kurigram and Natore districts yesterday.

A local fish farmer, Rafiqul Islam, 37, was killed beside his house at Mojai Danga area in Chilmari upazila of Kurigram.

Police and family members said Rafiqul went to check the fish in the pond beside his house when a lightning strike critically injured him on the spot.

Chilmari Police Station OC Nayan Kumar said family members rescued him, but he died on the way to the hospital.

In Natore, ​a man was killed when lightning struck him while working at a brick kiln in Lalpur upazila.

​The deceased was identified as Esken Ali Vola, 65, of Lalpur upazila.

Lalpur Police Station OC ​Md Shafikul Islam said ​Esken and another worker, Shapla Khatun, 30, were critically injured in the strike.

​Esken Ali passed away after being taken to the Lalpur Upazila Health Complex, while Shapla Khatun is currently undergoing treatment there, the OC added.
