JU admission tests for 2025–26 academic year begin with ‘C’ unit exam

Over 2.19 lakh applicants vie for 1,842 seats across seven units

Admission tests for the 2025–26 academic year at Jahangirnagar University (JU) began this morning with the "C" unit examination.

The "C" unit covers the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, the Faculty of Law, and the Institute of Comparative Literature and Culture. With this test, the undergraduate (honours) admission process for the new academic session formally started.

This year, 219,399 candidates applied against 1,842 seats across seven units, putting competition about 119 candidates per seat.

The figures were confirmed by Syed Mohammad Ali Reza, secretary of the university's Central Admission Test Committee and deputy registrar (education).

According to official data, the highest number of applications was recorded in the "D" unit (Faculty of Biological Sciences), where 70,220 candidates are competing for 310 seats, or about 226 applicants per seat.

In the "A" unit (Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences), 60,351 candidates applied for 426 seats. The "B" unit (Faculty of Social Sciences) received 20,583 applications against 326 seats, while the "C" unit drew 47,497 applicants for 466 seats.

The "E" unit (Faculty of Business Studies) saw 11,612 applicants competing for 200 seats.

Admission tests for IBA-JU will be held separately, with 5,411 applicants vying for 50 seats. The fewest applications were received in the separate "C1" unit, which includes Drama and Dramatics, and Fine Arts, where 3,725 candidates applied for 64 seats.

To ensure security during the examinations, a 44-member committee, headed by Proctor Prof AKM Rashidul Alam, has been formed. About 250 police personnel, 60 Ansar members, along with traffic police and intelligence officials, have been deployed. Ambulances and medical teams are also on standby.
