Syeed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, nayeb-e-ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has described BNP chief Khaleda Zia as a "patriotic, democratic and uncompromising" leader while she undergoes treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital.

"She (Khaleda Zia) is no longer just the leader of a party. She is the leader of all people," Taher told reporters at the hospital gate around noon today. He had been admitted to the same hospital for a cardiac condition and spoke to reporters on his way home.

"With deep sorrow, anxiety, and emotion, I pray for the recovery of Begum Khaleda Zia, the beloved leader of all people of Bangladesh," Taher said.

Addressing the country's political situation, Taher emphasised the need for greater cooperation among major parties. "In the present context, Bangladesh's political future and the next election require much more compromise, understanding, and principled unity among the major political parties," he said.

"Let us determine our duties with patience, wisdom, and by prioritising the country," he urged all political parties and sections of society.

Meanwhile, ATM Azharul Islam, newly appointed nayeb-e-ameer of Jamaat, issued a separate statement wishing Khaleda Zia a quick recovery. He praised her dedication "to protecting the country's independence and sovereignty and contributing to state-building."

"Her unwavering stance against 15 years of Awami 'fascist' rule will remain written in golden letters in the nation's history," Azharul Islam said.

He claimed, "Khaleda Zia has been denied the chance to receive advanced treatment abroad by keeping her imprisoned in false and fabricated cases, pushing her towards life-threatening conditions."

"At this turning point–after the fall of fascism–when the nation seeks democratic transition and the building of a just state, the people expect her to emerge as a guide for the nation," he added, praying for her "swift recovery and complete healing."
