Frame ‘July Charter’, put AL on trial

The National Citizen Party (NCP) and Khelafat Majlish have agreed on eight major demands, including putting the Awami League on trial for the July killings and suspending its political activities until the trial is complete.

During a meeting at the Khelafat Majlish office in the capital's Purana Paltan, the two parties also stressed the formulation of a "July Charter" based on national consensus to initiate fundamental reforms and ensure elections as soon as possible after that.

Other key issues they agreed on include constitutional recognition for those killed during the July Uprising, proper treatment for the injured, and rehabilitation of affected families.

They also called for unity, swift trials for past killings and disappearances, withdrawal of cases against Islamic scholars and political workers, and cancellation of recent gas and oil price hikes.

Additionally, the parties called for effective international intervention, including by the United Nations, to stop the Israeli genocide in Gaza. They also demanded the repeal of India's Waqf Amendment Bill, which allegedly allows the seizure of Muslim properties and destruction of religious sites, and an end to the persecution of Indian Muslims.

NCP leaders present at the meeting included Convener Nahid Islam, Member Secretary Akhter Hossen, Senior Joint Convener Ariful Islam Adib, and others.

Khelafat Majlish was represented by Secretary General Ahmad Abdul Qadir, Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Sakhawat Hossain, and Maulana Ahmad Ali Qasemi, among others.

During a break in the meeting, Ahmad Abdul Qadir read out a written statement to the media, while Nahid Islam responded to questions from journalists.
