Woman found dead in tobacco field

Police recovered the body of a woman from a tobacco field in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia this morning.

The deceased was identified as Santoshi Bala Dasi, 49, of Mashan Rishi Para in Baruipara Union. She was a mother of four children.

According to family members, Santoshi went out of the house yesterday afternoon to collect firewood but did not return. Her family searched for her throughout the night.

The labourers working in the tobacco field found her body this morning.

Jinnah Ali Khan, a member of Baruipara Union Parishad, said the spot where Santoshi Bala had gone to collect leaves is a known spot for drug addicts.

Mominul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mirpur Police Station, said there were no visible injury marks on her body, but a scarf was found wrapped around her neck.

Police suspect she might have been strangled to death.

The body was sent to the 250-bed Kushtia General Hospital for autopsy, the police offiial added.
