Rape and attempt to murder child: Accused gets life term in Dinajpur

A court today sentenced an accused to life term imprisonment in a case filed over rape of a child and attempt to kill her in Dinajpur's Parbatipur in 2016.

Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Sharif Uddin Ahmed also fined the convict Tk 20,000, in default of which, he will have to serve six months more in jail, said Advocate Toiyaba Begum.

The convict Saiful Islam is son of Johir Uddin of Takeyapara village in the upazila. The verdict was announced in presence of Saiful at the court, our Dinajpur correspondent reports.

A general diary was filed with Parbatipur Model Police Station as a five-year-old girl went missing while playing outside her house on October 18, 2016. The following day, the girl was found in critical condition on a field near her home. She was rescued and admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

Later police arrested Saiful in connection with the case.
