Police ‘Raid’ in Ctg: Youth dies after jumping off building

A youth died by jumping off a two-storey building in Chattogram's Chandgaon area early yesterday.

The dead is Mohammad Munna, alias Monaiya, of the district's Patiya upazila, said police.

Mokhleshur Rahman, deputy commissioner (north) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, said Munna jumped off the building during an anti-drug raid by police.

A police team, headed by Sub-inspector Ridoy, conducted the operation on information that a group of drug peddlers entered inside the building, he said.

"Sensing police presence, Munna and two others took position on a sun shed of the building. At one point, they jumped off to avert arrest."

Although two landed safely, Munna got an injury on his head. He breathed his last while receiving treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital, he added.

Police would file unnatural death and narcotics cases in connection with this.

The law enforcers recovered 622 yaba pills and tools to consume yaba pills from the building, he said, adding that Munna was not accused in any drug-related case before.
