One sent to jail over rape, blackmail in Feni

A Feni court today sent a man to jail on charges of raping a woman and filming the incident in Sonagazi upazila.

Feni district judicial magistrate passed the order after the accused, Jahir Uddin Suman, 29, an electrician and a resident of Char Chandia area of the upazila, was produced before the court in the afternoon, said Sonagazi Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Quamrul Islam.

Citing case statement, the OC said the 32-year-old victim got acquainted with Suman a few months ago when he came to her house for some electrical repairs. According to the case details, on February 17, after a regular meeting, Suman took the woman to his house, raped her, and recorded the incident. He later threatened to release the video on social media if she refused to maintain contact with him.

As the victim refused, he sent the video to her mother on her phone, said the OC.

The victim filed a case against Suman on Sunday night with Sonagazi Model Police Station.

Police immediately arrested the accused after the filing of the case, said OC Quamrul.

The accused was produced before a court today, which sent him to jail, he added.
