Man sentenced to death for killing wife in Gopalganj

A Dhaka tribunal today sentenced a man and three others to death for killing his wife in Gopalganj in February 2016.

The convicts are Morshedayan Nishan, his brother Ehsan Shushan, brother-in-law Mohammad Hasan Sheikh and Anisur Rahman.

Of them, Shushan, Hasan Sheikh and Anisur were present during the judgment. But Nishan is absconding.

Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal -2 Judge Md Jakir Hossain handed down the verdict in presence of the three convicts today.

Earlier, the prosecution and the defence completed their arguments and the tribunal recorded statements of 20 prosecution witnesses, including the complainant of the case.

According to the case statement, Jakia Mallik was mercilessly beaten by the convicts for dowry at their house on Silna Road at Bedgram in Gopalganj on February 5, 2016.

On information, police rescued Jakia and admitted her to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital. Later she succumbed to her injuries there.

Police arrested Nishan and three others in this connection. But Nishan went into hiding after getting bail from the court.
