Man detained at Inqilab Moncho demo with suspected firearm

Activists of Inqilab Moncho detained a man in Dhaka's Shahbagh area tonight after he was found in possession of what was initially suspected to be a firearm.

The man, identified as Arafat Zaman, was detained during a sit-in programme organised by Inqilab Moncho to demand justice for the killing of the platform's spokesperson, Sharif Osman Hadi.

He was later handed over to Shahbagh Police Station.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge Moniruzzaman of Shahbagh Police Station told The Daily Star that the youth was found carrying a toy pistol, not a real firearm.

"Inqilab Moncho members brought a young man to the police station with a toy pistol. At first glance, he appears to be mentally unstable," the OC said.
