Helena Jahangir sued in another case for running Joyjatra IPTV illegally

Another case was filed against Helena Jahangir, a businessperson turned politician recently sacked from the position of member of an Awami League subcommittee, for operating an IPTV channel illegally.

Sub-inspector Idris Ali of Rab-4 filed the case with Pallabi Police Station around 11:30pm yesterday under Telecommunications Act, Sub-inspector Nasir Uddin, a duty officer of the police station, told The Daily Star.

Nasir said the case was filed for operating "Joyjatra television" without government approval and license and running its office illegally in Dhaka's Mirpur area.

Earlier yesterday, a Dhaka court placed Helena on three-day remand in connection with a case Rab filed with Gulshan Police Station under the Digital Security Act.

In the case, Rab brought charges of "spreading propaganda and misleading information" on digital platforms to defame important personalities and create panic and confusion among the public.

The law enforcers arrested her during a raid at her Gulshan residence on Thursday night.

Apart from case under DSA, Rab earlier filed another case with Gulshan Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act, Special Powers Act, Wildlife Conservation Act and Telecommunications Act.

After her arrest, Rab conducted raid at the IPTV station and sealed it off.

The officials said they found illegal satellite TV equipment though she was running the channel as an IPTV.
