HC issues contempt of court against man fleeing country with child
The High Court yesterday issued a contempt of court rule against one Saniur TIM Nabi for leaving the country with his three-year old boy ignoring its earlier directive.
The court also summoned Saniur's father TM Nabi to appear before it on December 7 for posting a derogatory Facebook post about it.
The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order while hearing a petition filed by Indian national Sadika Sheikh, mother of child, seeking necessary directives.
The HC ordered the authorities concerned of the government to suspend the "effectiveness" of the Bangladeshi passport of Saniur TIM Nabi.
Bangladeshi citizen Saniur and Indian national Sadika got married in 2017. They had been living in Dhaka.
At a stage, they locked into conflicts over different issues.
In the meantime, Sadika filed the petition with the HC seeking custody of the child.
In continuation of the legal battle, the HC ordered Saniur to handover the child to its mother Sadika by November 16. But, the order was not complied with.
On November 17, the HC bench ordered Saniur and police authorities to produce the child before the court on November 21. It also directed Saniur not to leave the country.
Dhaka metropolitan police informed the HC through Deputy Attorney General Bepul Bagmar that Saniur left the country with the child on November 16.
Yesterday, petitioner Sadika appeared before the HC bench and prayed for justice.
Lawyer Fawzia Karim Firoze appeared for Sadika.
