College student stabbed dead

A college student was stabbed to death allegedly by one of a neighbouring youth at Sultanpur in Sadar upazila on Wednesday evening.

The deceased, Sheikh Akash, 20, son of Sheikh Humayun of Uttarpara area in the upazila, was a HSC first-year student at Chinair Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Honours College.

Besides, four other youths of the same area were also injured during the incident that took place in front of Sultanpur High School around 7:30pm on Wednesday.

Injured, Arman, 20, Masum, 17, Fayez, 16, and Rakib, 14, are now undergoing treatment at Brahmanbaria General Hospital.

Quoting witnesses, police said one Sheikh Rifat, son of Sheikh Kamrul of the same area, had an altercation with Akash in front of a kindergarten school at the village on Wednesday noon.

At one stage, people nearby rushed in and settled the matter.

But, as a sequel to the incident, Rifat stabbed Akash with a knife while he was gossiping with four other youths in front of Sultanpur High School in the evening.

At that time, Arman, Masum, Fayez and Rakib, also sustain injuries when they tried to save Akash from the attack.

Hearing cries, locals rushed to the spot, rescued the injured five and took them to Brahmanbaria General Hospital, where the doctors declared Akash dead.

Officer in Charge of Sadar Model Police Station Emranul Islam said they were trying to find out the reason behind duo's enmity.
