Body of a child recovered after missing for seven days

Police have recovered the body of an 18-month-old child from a pond in Noakhali's Begumganj upazila a week after he went missing.

The deceased is Meyadlul Islam, son of Md Roni of the upazila, said Mahfuzur Rahman, sub-inspector of Begumganj Model Police Station

Police said the cause of the death can be determined after autopsy.

The body was recovered from a pond beside their house in Jahanabad village around 6:00pm today after a family member noticed the floating body.

The family, however, alleged that he was murdered, said Sub-inspector of Begumganj Model Police Station Mahfuzur Rahman.

The deceased's father Md Roni, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver, had filed a general diary with the police station on January 22, two days after he went missing from his courtyard.

The body has been sent to Noakhali General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Further legal action will be taken after the family of the deceased files a case, said the SI.
