BNP leader shot by miscreants in Keraniganj
A BNP leader was shot by miscreants in the Dhalikandi area of Keraniganj in Dhaka district on Thursday night.
The injured was identified as Hasan Molla, general secretary of Hazratpur union BNP, said his younger brother Rakib Hossain.
The incident occurred around 9:30pm near his residence in Dhalikandi. He was critically injured and later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Rakib said, “After finishing election-related work at ward no 9 BNP office in Jagannathpur in the evening, Hasan went to a waz mahfil in the same area. He was returning home from there when the attack took place.
“As he reached near his house, two miscreants arrived at high speed on a motorcycle and shot him before fleeing the scene,” Rakib said.
Hasan sustained a gunshot wound on the right side of his abdomen, he said, adding that hearing his screams, local people rushed to the spot and rescued him.
However, the identities of the attackers and the motive behind the shooting could not be known immediately.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Hasan Molla was brought to the hospital with gunshot wounds after 10:30pm.
“He was shot on the right side of his abdomen and is currently receiving treatment at the emergency department,” the inspector said.
Dhaka District Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman said miscreants fired one round targeting Hasan.
