Anis Alamgir denied bail in ACC case

Tk 3.68 crore unaccounted for, according to inquiry

A special court has denied bail to journalist Anis Alamgir today in a case filed over “acquiring assets beyond his known sources of income”.

Judge Md Sabbir Faiz of the Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court in Dhaka passed the order following a bail petition, defence lawyer Taslima Zahan Popy said.

On January 28, the court showed Anis arrested in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Earlier, the case was filed on January 15 by the ACC under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act.

According to the ACC inquiry, Anis’ total wealth stands at Tk 4.25 crore, while his declared assets in the latest income tax return amount to Tk 57.99 lakh, leaving nearly Tk 3.68 crore unaccounted for.

On March 5, the High Court granted bail to Anis Alamgir in another case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
