AL MP Bachchu’s office vandalised in Ctg

Miscreants vandalised and torched the office of Awami League lawmaker from Chattogram-10 Md Mohiuddin Bachchu in the port city's Lalkhan Bazar areas this evening.

Witnesses said after holding a rally at New Market intersection in Chattogram city, thousands of students and mass people brought out a procession towards Tiger Pass areas around 5:30pm.

When the procession reached Lalkhan Bazar, the office of Mohiuddin Bachchu came under attack, reports our Chattogram staff correspondent.

The attackers vandalised the furniture of two rooms and later set those on fire, added the witnesses.

Sidraturl Rahi, a witness, said when the procession reached near the AL MP's office, 8-10 people from the procession entered the office and carried out the vandalism and arson.

The attackers were not students, Rahi added.

This correspondent could contact police and organisers of the student movement for comments in this regard.

Earlier, around 2:30pm, responding to the protest programme called by the anti-discrimination student movement, thousands of students and mass people gathered at New Market intersection.

During the gathering, they were chanting slogans like "We want justice. 'Down with the dictatorship".

After a rally at the New Market area, they brought out a procession towards Tiger Pass and Lalkhan Bazar areas.

During the visit, the correspondent found that there was no presence of law enforcers around the protest sites.
