Two children drown in Cumilla

Two children drowned in a pond in Cumilla's Chandina upazila this afternoon.

The victims are Afnan, 7, son of Abdullah Al Noman Shiblu, and Adnan, 8, son of Shariar Sumon, of Mohonpur village of Batagachi union. They were cousins, Shahabuddin Khan, officer-in-charge of Chandina Police Station, told our Cumilla correspondent.

Quoting locals, the OC said the incident took place around 2:00pm when the two cousins went to take a bath in a pond after returning home from school. When they did not come home, locals searched for them and found their bodies floating in a pond.

Recovering the bodies, the families rushed them to Cumilla Medical College Hospital where doctors declared them dead.

The OC said the bodies were handed over to the families without an autopsy.
