Police shoots and misses buffalo, hits youth

A youth is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after police opened fire to kill a buffalo gone wild in Narayanganj's Araihazar yesterday and hit him instead.

The injuries of Md Shanto, 24, of Duptara area of Araihazar, is not life threatening, claimed police.

Shanto was shot in the morning of second day of Eid and was admitted to a hospital by the police.

According to police and locals, the buffalo ran away from a cattle market on the night before Eid and was creating havoc in the area. It had even injured two people.

Yesterday morning, police went to the area and found the buffalo and shot at it.

Imdadul Islam Tayyab, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Araihazar Police Station, said, "Police fired at the buffalo but the bullet hit the youth in his stomach."

The buffalo is still at large as of 11:00pm last night.
